Linda RoseA friend of mine used to make what she called fried spaghetti. She would fry a mess of crispy bacon, cook a pot of spaghetti and drain it. Then she would lightly stir fry a bunch of stir fry veggies, add the spaghetti, crumble the bacon in and toss it all together. It was heavenly. She also made the best apple pie I ever set a tooth into. Thank you, Marylynne Jonas.

Geneva MercerI grew up in those days - one thing we had was more stronger men in our lives - men who would fight for their families and speak up and tell their sons and daughters the truth of how life works. For too long, it's been left up to the Moms, who most do a fabulous job most of the time, but it's tough to be a single parent and they don't get the man's point of view. I remember very well my Dad telling me how life works and what I didn't know at that teen years. Gave me the backbone that I needed to get through life. I know all this is old fashioned and no one probably wants to read it, let alone hear it, but we'd all be better off if we went back to old-fashioned family values.

Bonnie BrownSo we'll said...i grew up in the 50s and 60s. Watched this show and loved it. In many ways things were better then than now. Today's young people are worse than those kids...todays kids don't have the respect to sit and listen to this, they would be arguing and yelling. Pathetic snowflake generation!

Dan BanstraI literally bumped into Jeff Gordon at Loudon in the mid-90's. Almost knocked him down actually. I couldn't believe how short he was in person. He was really nice about it though - he stood there for a few minutes and just chewed the fat with me. He offered to sign a bunch of stuff for me, but I was happy just to have met him and been able to talk with him for a few minutes. It was cool experience.

Brenda HallWild Bill, I just wanted to spread the word. My son just arrived in Naples FL with a full tanker of gas and Diesel that they will give away for free to anyone needing it. From first responders to anyone with a gas container for generators to auto's. He and the people who volunteer spent 2 weeks in Rockport and Port Aransas Texas. They refueled and headed to Florida two day ago. They are set up in Naples now. If you could spread the word.

Rita TeixeiraI was raised like you in a lot of ways, if you want something earn it. No excuses no whining, just do it. If you are hired to do something, then do it. I have no problem with your views about work, loyalty and surrounding yourself with people who have your back. My Mom always said " show me your friends and I will show you your future" is true. I don't think you need to defend your values, they are what they are. We are from a generation where you worked for what you want, you get what you earn, you don't charge it and go into debt to have have something, you save for it. No a days if you want it, they want it now. When you have to earn it you put more value on it. You continue to do what you do, you owe no one any excuses or apologizes.

Fran OswaldYou're a good man, Bill. What do you do with the F/V Summer Bay during the off season? How long does it take to get her ready for crab fishing? Hope you have a safe, lucrative season with no breakdowns, and cheap fuel!

Wendy AbrahamI admire your work ethic. The courage all of you crab fisherman have is something I really admire. I have really enjoyed getting to know you better through the show. I initially thought you were an asshole - but as the seasons progressed I began to see the method behind the madness. To top it off you can do any job on the boat! Wow! That really blew me away. I guess when I saw that you had horses and are a very gentle soul - ya got me! I don't know you but feel like I do. Safe travels WB! I am a big fan - and being a woman I worry about you out there! Much love to you and yours !!

Michael DowdWhen you're at sea, in charge of a boat or ship, with safety number one and lives along w everything else in your trust, there is only one way. And it starts at the top. I spent a few years at sea. Having a crew that works well and trusts one another with the captain, is everything. There is no room for half a-- at sea. From what I see you do a darn good job. Those that don't like it can go work for someone else. They'll never understand all the responsibilities when you're in command. Good luck w the upcoming season!

Ben PhilippiI did a lot of research into repellant as I am often in mangrove forests full of sandflies (no-see-ums) and Mosquitos. Protip: repellant is not a repellant in the traditional sense of the word. It will only protect parts of the skin that are covered in the chemical. If you leave a spot on the back of your arm uncoated in repellant but every other square inch covered the mozzie will find it. This is because it doesn't work by smell but when the mozzie lands on you it tastes the repellant through it's legs. Secondly, the only 2 repellant chemicals proven to prevent bites(malaria) are DEET and picaradin. 'natural' repellants like pymethryn are largely ineffective.

Marcia HigginsA few nights ago I was watching Deadliest Catch with my grown son and husband. My son and I don't get to watch much, because my husband is an idiot. He keeps going on about how the boats should be OSHA inspected, the guys on deck should be teathered with ropes (imagine 5or6 ropes on deck with a deck hand tied to it) He complains so much he almost, almost takes all the fun out of watching the show. How do I explain to him that OSHA doesn't apply to fishing boats.

Mj Knopcan't thank you enough for doing the show. In some ways i understand my father better as he not only skippered, he commanded a group of 90' wooden hulled minesweepers that captured live mines, brought them on board, then his boats relayed them in enemy waters. He watched a few boats go down as a live mine would get loose and explode near the hull allowing the frigid North sea waters to hit the 200 degree boilers. he weathered many a storm and combat situations. You and the other captains set good examples for the crews to follow. Love the Summer Bay.. Really close between you and the Time Bandit. ARRR ARRR ARRR!

John LynchMy old boss gave me a chance after I got clean. That one chance along with 12 step programs gave me the confidence that I could live one day at a time and be successful while sober; that was 20 years ago but it started right where you are now!!!

Kathi Letz-TerpinThat's great Nick! There's a lot of love and support out here for you, but none as important as the faith of one man who considers you to be a second son.. Julie HensonSo glad you made the right decision!!! I work in mental health. Believe me as the brain ages that has been exposed to too many yrs of drugs and alcohol...well, it's not pretty. Irrational thinking, not recognizing your own family, or family has finally given up on you and you are eventually appointed a ward of court system and given a guardian. Of course all this takes place over yrs and yrs. But it always starts with the one choice to take a drink.or drug. Blessings and prayers offered up for you Nick and all others fighting the fight.

Mj KnopNick you'll always be an addict, but you don't need to cave to the addictions. I mentor at the local rescue Mission and I see firsthand what happens to those who lost sobriety. One of my students lost his family (they won't talk with him). many face numerous criminal charges. Worse yet is their mental state of mind. Never believing they can function and survive without alcohol or drug of choice. Never believing they'll be able to contribute in a positive way to society such as holding down a job. You're so fortunate to have a 'friend that sticks closer than a brother' in Capt Wild Bill. So fortunate to have not just a job, but a well paying job. Stay sober my friend, one day at a time. prayers for you and those out there on the sea.

Debbie HinesWhen I was young and went fishing with my grandpa he use to say" Early to bed, early to rise, fish like hell and make up lies". Fishing with him are some of the best memories of my younger years. I wish he was still here. I'd love to go on another fishing trip with pop. โค I learned a lot about fishing and life from him.
